Letter from a reader on FOM's call for Tourism Boycott

Dear Editor,

I am a staff at villa hotels and would like to remain anonymous. Please publish my mail on your website. I emailed mini van news but they refused to publish my email.

I would like to say something regarding the calls for tourism boycott by Friends of Maldives. I want to say as a Maldivian who works in the tourism industry that everything on their brochure is a lie.

First of all Ivan Naseem died in jail, and his killers have been sentenced in court. These things happen all over the world. They are tragic, and have to be avoided. Next they said something about Mr Gasim, my boss. He is a good man. MDP websites mini van news and DO said great things about Mr Gasim until he joined President.

So has Mr Gasim changed over night? that is a lie. I know him very well. He would not have joined President if President is bad. FM called tourists to boycott villa resorts.

Villa owns the majority of beds in Maldives. Have most employees. Salary bill over 7 million a month. I have 5 children. When tourism boycott happens who will loose? I can't feed my children.

I want to tell the world that FM, MDP, and Maldives Aid are the same. They only want power. They are willing to sacrifise us for their own good.

So tourists, please do not believe what they say. Check the truth from people who know. Reputed people like IMF and World Bank. The US Govt gave more aid yesterday. If Maldives President bad, will they have given it? EU also passed resolution to give aid. So FM liying. They do not plan sanctions or anything. All liers. Maldives has developed so much during Maumoon presidency. So many schools, hospitals built. Leading GDP per capita in the region. This is not what those liers tell you is it?

As a Maldivian I am very happy. But also sad as people like Anni and Sikka trying to lie and give the Maldives a bad name in front of the world. Tourists, did you know that Sikka and MDP people brought hired mercenaries to Maldives, 3rd november 1988? They killed 19 people. Why are FM and MDP not talking about that?

So please please tourists, don't believe the lies. Find out the truth for yourselves.
