By: Ismail Rifau

The IDP leadership called on the members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to sever all ties with the FoM, who in the IDP’s words “are a renegade group working to destabilise the Maldives economy for political and evangelical purposes”.

Recent investigations have revealed that the only registered legal entity, in the UK operating under the name “Friends of Maldives” is a charity that has nothing to do with David Hardingham who claims to be the director of the FoM.

It has also been revealed that Hardingham is the leader of the international wing of the MDP and that he operates clandestine radio stations and websites on behalf of the MDP through his UK Company Minivan Radio Limited.

The IDP press release also stated that the Party’s leadership expressed these concerns while meeting with Lord Naseby, the leader of the all party Maldives-British Parliamentary Group on the on the 8th of January.

Sources within the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and the IDP have let on that, these two parties were ‘discussing’ issues and that there is a possibility of a political alliance between these parties.
