It’s all in the name of REFORM…
by Alif
It’s all very easy to criticize... The trendiest catchphrase these days is of course ‘the past 27 years’. Today we come across many ‘expert analysts’ who use it just to go along with the current political changes sweeping across Maldives. They have become experts because they heard so-and-so said so at the last party rally and if one can blast off something so loud, than it must be true. This is propaganda used by groups of shameless opportunists to promote personal agendas. They ruthlessly feeding misinformation to the general public – to distort the truth and thereby create dissent amongst the peace-loving Maldivians. They ridicule Qayyoom and his government in efforts to discredit him for the progress and development we see in Maldives. They claim to be ardent pro-democratic activists working towards reform, against an allegedly dictatorial government. Why hasn’t Qayyoom sued these ‘little guys’ for defamation of character if he is the dictator they are claiming him to be? Why haven’t any of the cabinet ministers and others filed in similar law-suits? Food for thought, isn’t it?
The following are some of the most infamous of our ‘reformists’ who claim to have ‘our’ best interests in their hearts:
Embezzlers like Go-Go. Do you know that he sold Rannaalhi to three different parties in 1993 – 1994, and yet falsely claimed it as his? What did he do with his ill-begotten money? He certainly was no Robin Hood who stole from the rich to give to the poor. Madoogali Hussein Shareef was also one his victims. For those of you who don’t know Go-Go well, he is a liberated father who has no qualms whatsoever. He apparently watches porn pictures with his darling daughter Jenny. Perhaps they watch them together all the way to inevitable unnatural conclusions!
Guys with inflated egos such as the thieving Anni and psychopath Ibra, incapable of earning an honest day’s work, but only knows to spread lies and weave fantasies for ignorant audiences willing to listen to them. I too would like to see fully equipped hospitals, colleges, banks and other facilities in each and every island of Maldives. Perhaps guys like Anni and Ibra have got hidden magic wands and lamps that will produce them instantly. But of course when they come into power and never before!!! You see, it’s only in real life that people need finance and investments. Do you think they had our interests when they set off minors on the streets during August 12th and 13th?
Drunkards like Zaki, Munavvaru and so on, who speak of great visions, while hitting the bottle. And as for their great visions, according to their evil henchman IC, they pass out unrealized, because none of them remember any of their great plans the following day. Why didn’t these guys try to do something great for us when they had their chance? Do you think a second chance will make them perform any better when they have already been proven failures? Where was their loyalty to us then?
The notorious Nedhunge clan, the drug lords of Maldives, who initiated many innocent youth, including preteens of both sexes, to the viles of drugs and accompanying life-styles. They paid no heed then to the lives they were destroying. They were totally deaf and numb to the pain of the families of their unfortunate victims. Many were the times angry mothers like Mariyam Manike literally dragged out disoriented sons and daughters out of the drug den Nedhunge, screaming obscenities at the top of their voices, at Hassan Najeeb and Falah. It’s ironical that those who actually destroyed Ivan Naseem are champions for Mariyam Manike. For those who don’t know Falah – he is also a noted swindler. I personally know some guys he charged a large sum of money as advance payment for the use of his barge two to three years back. They neither got the barge or their money back. And as for Nedhunge womenfolk Aindhatha, Aisthu Najeeb and Buh Jenny - that’s another story!
Miscreants like Landhoo Ibrahim and other convicts whom Cucumber Fareed brainwashed while the latter was in jail. According to Fareed’s interpretation of Islamic Law, all drugs are legal. That was the line he preached during his inmate days! No wonder all druggies are his ardent fans. As for Landhoo, he has his uses too. Besides using him for light entertainment, MDP also sends him out on foolhardy errands which no one else would volunteer! Poor Landhoo, unaware that he is being manipulated, boasts of the honours he is asked to perform, all in the name of REFORM!!! Apparently, according to Landhoo’s friends, he receives more calls from international figures such as UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and from the Head of Red Cross than the MDP chairman himself, and all originating from Maldives!
Beware my Maldivian brothers and sisters! Don’t be taken in by people who are out to take advantage of us. Don’t be fooled by them. According to them, Qayyoom has done nothing for the country. Look around. See the changes that have occurred, especially in the past 27 years. Listen only to people who have our well-being in their hearts. Look into the Maldivian communities. There are many young men and women who have contributed to the well-being of the community, even long before the tsunami. This shows that one does not necessarily need money, power or position to do things for us. Now question, what have people like Anni and Ibra ever done for us. NOTHING. If they cared so much for us, why haven’t they done anything yet?
