Re: UK advocacy group urges boycott of Maldives resorts

Mr. Nelson Alcantara
Editor-in-Chief
Eturbonews.com

Dear Mr. Alcantara

Having read your above-mentioned story, I thought I would bring to attention some inaccuracies that are there in the list of resorts in the article. Perhaps you may wish to let the writer Mr. David Browne and the so-called Friends of Maldives (or should I say Friends of A Small Part of Maldives?) know about that.

There are some names in the list of resorts that are in fact NOT resorts at all; they are desert islands at the moment. No tourists would go there anyway.
Some resorts belonging to certain parties are in the list while other resorts belonging to the same parties are not.

I believe the source that is feeding information to the so-called FOM does not know what it is talking about or just does not bother to find accurate information when publishing stories. This in turn makes me not trust in stories you may publish in the future not that it may bother you.

I happen to be a director of a company that owns and operates some of the resorts that are there in this list. And I can tell you this. My company had never been and will never be aligned towards either the so-called Regime or the Opposition.

The message I hope to get across to Mr. David Hardingham is that even if my resorts go belly up because of his call for boycott he would not have achieved his objective of “affecting the regime directly” simply because my resorts are not “directly (or indirectly for that matter) linked to the regime”. I would not have any influence nor a link even to tell the regime to please do what ever Mr. David Hardingham is asking for if European tourists stopped visiting my resorts as a result of his call.

Thanking you.
With regards

A reader from the Maldives
