Ibra threatens to resign over Annie’s meddling

Male’, Maldives, 7th February 2006 00:20 Hrs (www.olhuala.com) – MDP leader Ibrahim Ismail is currently in consultation with his chief aides ‘Furahani’ Shuaib and ‘Thala’ Moosa, expressing his distaste at the ‘constant interference and meddling’ of Chairman Mohamed Nasheed. Ibra has reportedly stated that he intends to resign because he can take no more of this blatant manipulation by Annie. He may make as announcement to the effect as early as today.
Ibra has specifically stated that his chosen path is non-violence and dialogue with the government under the mediation of the Commonwealth. Annie, according to Ibra, is still pushing for violent overthrow through street demonstrations and other means. The ongoing meeting at Ibra’s residence also includes some members of Ibra’s shadow cabinet.
Although he is the elected leader, Ibra has had to struggle for power with Annie because Annie has control of the party’s National Executive. Ibra’s cabinet’s decisions have consistently been overridden by the Executive.
