Let us face some hard facts. MDP loathes democracy. Tell me one person in the top MDP hierarchy who even understands what democracy means – and I am not harping about their pitiful intellectual accomplishments. Worse than that. By their bloody deeds, MDP big wigs are demonstrating time and time again their contempt for the rights and opinions of others.
Consider the meetings in Addu last night. Attorney-General Dr Hassan Saeed and the Justice Minister, Dr Mohamed Jameel, had announced their Addu tour a full fortnight in advance. In fact, it was only after the first meeting was held by the duo on Wednesday night that the MDP decided to charter a seaplane and rush to Addu, worried about the rapid rate at which they were losing ground in Addu.
True to form, Zaki, Mariya and Rado Zahir hired gangs of youths to pelt stones at the DRP meeting, which even began a full hour ahead of the MDP meeting.
It is well known that MDP hates Voltaire—certainly, in action, Zaki and his cronies have demonstrated their contempt for the most fundamental pillar of liberal democracy—that you defend the rights of others to express their views. For MDP, that would be like death! They just can’t stand dissent or views that do not conform to their views!
Zaki was screaming blue murder in Dhivehi, telling his inebriated young followers to attack the police and the Attorney General. As a result of which, some youths threw stones at the DRP meeting venue.
However, the DRP meeting continued without paying heed to these hecklers and hooligans.
This is not the first night that MDP had done this. Last month, egged on by Mohamed Shihab, Aslam and co, some MDP supporters physically obstructed DRP meeting.
