Letter to David Browne of eTurbonews
Dear Mr Browne,
Over the past few days, we have received four emails from someone claiming to be yourself, concerning our recent open letter analysing your article on eTurboNews on the 27th of December 2005, titled “UK advocacy group urges boycott of Maldives resorts”.
These emails were sent using anonymous free web email services. I would like to rule out the slightest possibility that these emails were written by you, as it is highly irregular that an established, well-funded, professional journalist would use services such as hotmail or gmail. I also emailed our comments to your editor Mr Nelson Alcantara prior to publishing it on our news website.
Further, it has been brought to my attention that your name, along with purported quotes from yourself appear on a website at the url http://www.minivannews.com/. Again, it is incomprehensible that a journalist whose work appearing on eTurboNews would not use that same eTurboNews and its machinery, or some other respected platform to get across their point of view.
Also the points raised in these emails and the above mentioned article are of dubious quality. But it is more distressing for us that there is the possibility that someone is abusing your name to further their own agenda.
I hope you can help put to rest these disquieting thoughts.
Sincerely
Hussain Umar – Editor www.olhuala.com
