People around Hithadhoo hospital have realised [that the] driver's [Faseeh] story was false. People are gradually leaving the area. Some threats of reprisals against police have been made. Three civilian witnesses have come forward to refute allegations. One of them is ready to go on TV”

Male’, Maldives, 19 January 2006, 2305 Hrs (olhuala.com) – Sources within the MDP, inform olhuala.com that Nazim Sattar, brother of MDP Chairman, his wife, Redey and another UNFPA staff who were leading the ‘protest’ with MDP and Maldivian flags are nowhere to be seen.

It is believed that they have returned home (to Kenereege) after the humiliating set back the MDP faced tonight when Male’ residents turned against the MDP after so much hype.

Although small partey groups carrying MDP flags are going about the capital, the MDP bigwigs have realised that they have no support.

It is rumoured that they are regrouping at G.Fus. Olhuala.com will verify this momentarily.

The situation on the streets of Male’ is calm. There have been no major violent clashes, although scuffles between angry residents and MDP ‘protestors’ broke out on several occasions.

MPS personnel are keeping there distance as last night.

The ‘protestors’ are being met with booing.

The promised masses that ‘support’ the MDP has not materialised. It seems that Male’ residents have turned against the MDP.

Male’, Maldives, 19 January 2006, 2225 Hrs (olhuala.com) – A source within the MPS who wished to remain unnamed told olhuala.com “we have cordoned off the Maidhaan. We had information earlier that the MDP had planned to become violent. The MPS cannot allow that”

The MDP ‘protestors’ moving towards the artificial beach have been confronted by angry youths of Henveiru. They ‘protestors’ have left the scene in a hurry.

Olhuala.com’s Ahmed Shuwaadh who was at the scene said “residents have been infuriated by the MDP’s antics over the last few days. The youth group that came out of Henveiru confronted and broke up the protest procession, the protests in Henveiru are over for the time being. It is rumoured that the MDP will regroup at G.Fus again”.

Male’, Maldives, 19 January 2006, 2215 Hrs (olhuala.com) – 30-60 MDP members have started towards the Majlis Building from G.Fus, the HQ of Minivannews. Unconfirmed reports say that these MDP members are carrying steel bars and meat cleavers.

Male’, Maldives, 19 January 2006, 2200 Hrs (olhuala.com) – It is reported that MDP members are

gathering around the MDP office near Wood Apple. The numbers are estimated to be around 200 at present.

Members are carrying MDP flags and other paraphernalia.

Ahmed Abdul Rasheed, who is presently near Wood Apple told olhuala.com “ the people gathering are carrying flags and banners but I was shocked to see some of them carrying meat cleavers and steel bars. It does not look like these people are planning a peaceful protest”.

Male’, Maldives, 19 January 2006, 2130 Hrs (olhuala.com) – Olhuala.com’s Zeena reporting from Addu atoll said “the rumours that are being spread, stating that an individual [Faseeh] has been seriously injured is false. I am currently in the Hospital and no such injuries have been brought here. There is a group of people gathered here asking about Faseeh. It looks like they are MDP members. The MPS took Faseeh into custody earlier today without any incident. MPS sources told me that it was Faseeh who was behind the wheels of the van that rammed and injured MPS personnel during the 12/13/14 January incidents in Addu. Our information that a Didi was the perpetrator was incorrect”.

The above mentioned Faseeh is a convicted drug dealer. “Although some ‘news’ websites claim that he was a school bus driver, driving children, it is highly unlikely that and Ex-con would be employed as a school bus driver” said a teacher from Male’.

Analysts see the false reporting on MDP’s ‘news’ sites Dhivehi observer and minivannews as an effort to enrage Male’ residents so that they will join the MDP’s feeble efforts of creating chaos in Male’.

Olhuala.com can confirm that a group of MDP ‘protestors’ are getting ready by the MDP office near Alora (near Majilis building area).

Olhuala.com will report as events unfold.
